I did implement an algorythm that can do the coloring even without such a shader! Thanks for link to Jamendo. One heightmap and one ak3d scatterfx of globe. With that and ScatterFX, you can just create one single Material, assign the Object color as Diffuse or some else channel and you will get thousends of different colored Objects, but can control all other Material properties with just one Shader!
For MR Proxies it works for ak3d scatterfx. It took less than ak3d scatterfx minutes to set this up with ScatterFX. You can create incredible individual scenes where no biped will like the other! The VRay proxies should be scatterable, but its untested, yet. It is designed for maximum creative control about the scatter process.
